Instructions for Authors

Authors were informed about the disposition of their Contributed Paper and Poster Paper submissions by mid-March, 2006. If you have heard nothing to date please contact the conference secretariat at iaae@hoteliersint.com.

To confirm and assure their place on the program, all Contributed and Poster Paper authors must confirm their acceptance of the offer to present a contributed or poster paper before April 30, 2006. To do so, click the confirmation button accessed via the Speakers Zone above, and use the access code that was supplied to you when you made your original submission.

Authors of all accepted Contributed Papers must also resubmit a version of their paper that now includes a cover page containing the paper title and the author names and institutional affiliations, and conference name before April 30, 2006 via the Speakers Zone. When you upload the revised paper it will replace the current version on the web site

Authors of all accepted Poster Papers (including those who submitted Contributed Papers that were accepted as Posters) who wish their papers to be included on the conference CD-ROM and on AgEcon Search are also invited to resubmit a version of their paper that now includes a cover page containing the paper title and the author names and institutional affiliations, and conference name before April 30, 2006 via the Speakers Zone. Once again, when you upload the revised paper it will replace the current version on the web site

When resubmitting Contributed and Poster Papers, authors must ensure their manuscripts conform to the guidelines provided in "Formatting instructions for contributed and poster papers" (PDF) and follow the instructions included in the letter of acceptance.

Contributed Papers Accepted as Poster Papers
Authors of Contributed Papers accepted as Poster Papers are required to submit a revised abstract, including a plan of their poster before April 30, 2006. The submission of a revised abstract will be taken as an indication the author wishes to be included in the poster program. Your poster design plan should relate to a rectangular space of some 90 cms wide by 120 cm. deep. We recommend that you convert your material into a single large printed sheet with visual appeal for display during the conference. Thus your abstract submission should indicate a rough guide to the layout of text, graphs, photographs, etc.

Registration Requirements for Authors
Authors intending to present their paper at the conference should complete a conference registration form as soon as possible via the register on-line or download registration form buttons and arrange to pay the appropriate registration fee as soon as possible. Only those papers whose presenting authors are paid up, registered conference delegates before June 15, 2006 will remain on the program.

Contributed and Poster Paper Submissions

High quality Contributed Papers and Poster Papers are an important means of disseminating information and stimulating discussion. We invite and encourage you to submit proposals for Contributed Papers and Poster presentations at the conference. Contributed Papers and Poster Papers are solicited that present the results of new research on any topic in agricultural economics. The organization of the conference places Contributed Papers and Poster Papers at the heart of the program. A total of about 200 Contributed Papers and up to 250 Poster papers will be selected for presentation at the conference, along with about 50 invited papers.

Eligibility
At the time of the conference the presenting author of a Contributed Paper or Poster Paper must be a member of the IAAE whose dues are paid for the 2005-2007 conference period. Authors may submit more than one paper or poster. However, one person may not be the sole or senior/principal author of more than one submission of a Contributed Paper or Poster Paper.

Conference Proceedings
Once accepted for inclusion in the conference, authors will be required to submit contributed papers to the AgEcon Search database maintained by the University of Minnesota. These papers will be included in the proceedings CD-ROM that will be distributed to all participants at the beginning of the conference. These proceedings will also be made available on the IAAE home page. Poster presenters will also be given the opportunity to submit their poster to AgEcon Search for subsequent inclusion in the CD-ROM.

Awards for Outstanding Contributed Paper and Poster Paper
Two independent distinguished international panels will select three contributed and three poster papers by young economists to compete for the T.W. Schultz Best Contributed Paper Prize and the Nils Westermark Best Poster Paper Prize. To be eligible for these awards, the presenting author must be less than 38 years old on the submission deadline date. The authors will have the opportunity to make a 10 minute presentation in a conference plenary session.

Electronic Submission
Contributed Papers and summaries of Poster Papers can be submitted online, through the Submit Papers Link, on this web page. Submissions are to be made following a menu, either in PDF format or as a MS Word file, which will be automatically converted to PDF format.

The system will generate an automatic reply to authors once a paper is submitted. This email will contain an Access Key that gives authors access to the Speakers Zone where they can check on the status of papers, verify the conversion to PDF format, and reload papers if necessary.

Details on the requirements and submission process are slightly different for Contributed Papers and Poster Papers. Before proceeding to the Submit Papers Link, please check the details of eligibility and requirements and so on, and make sure that you have your manuscript in the right format and have the other required information at hand.

Contributed Papers

The deadline for submission of Contributed Papers is November 30, 2005.

Review Process
Submitted manuscripts will be subject to a double-blind review process. They will be reviewed by selected experts who will consider the originality of the work, clarity of exposition, methodological rigor and policy relevance.

Authors will be informed about the acceptance of Poster Papers by early March, 2006.

Authors of accepted papers will then have the opportunity to revise their papers for inclusion in AgEcon Search, the Conference Proceedings CD ROM, and on the IAAE website. Any revisions must be submitted before April 30, 2006.

Papers that cannot be accommodated in Contributed Paper sessions will be considered for Poster Paper sessions if the authors agree to prepare a poster in conformity with the guidelines in the Call for Poster Papers, and if the reviewers recommend this option.

Preparation of Manuscripts
Manuscripts should be prepared so that they conform to the requirements of the step-by-step instructions for electronic submission.

Papers must be in English, 12 point font, be double-spaced throughout, and should follow the style of Agricultural Economics, details of which can be obtained via the link "for authors" after hitting the "Journal Home Page" button at:
www.blackwell-synergy.com/servlet/useragent?
func=showIssues&code=agec

Submissions will comprise two elements, each of which should be prepared as separate PDF or MS Word files:

Abstract of 250 words or less, with up to 5 JEL Subject Codes.

Paper of up to 15 pages, double-spaced, in 12 point type, including title, tables, figures, and references. To preserve anonymity, authors' names should not appear in the body of the paper in a way that would reveal their identity.

Travel Costs
As in the past, IAAE will make an effort to raise support for colleagues from developing countries and transforming economies whose Contributed Papers are accepted, to assist with covering their costs of participating in the conference. Authors who are eligible for and in need of such assistance should indicate their desire to be considered for support when making their submission. A guarantee of such assistance cannot be given, and in general only partial support will be provided. Participants applying for support should endeavour to raise at least some of the funds required on their own initiative such as to cover their travel costs.

Other Information Required for Submission
At the time of submission, separately from the manuscript itself, authors will be asked to provide the following details:

  • The title of the paper
  • Author's names (in the order and form desired for publication), institutional affiliations or employers, and nationalities
  • Contact details for the corresponding author
  • An abstract of no more than 250 words
  • Up to 5 JEL Subject Codes indicating the relevant research fields
  • The publication status of the paper (if it has been published or is being considered for publication elsewhere, and to indicate whether there are any copyright impediments that mean the paper cannot be published on the CD ROM)
  • Whether the paper is eligible to be considered for the Young Economist Competition (lead author less than 38 years on submission deadline date)
  • Whether the authors are willing for their paper to be considered for a Poster Paper if it is not accepted as a Contributed Paper
