Call for Submissions: Symposia

IAAE Conference Programs have traditionally included a number of discussion groups, continuing over several conference sessions, with topics covering a wide variety of issues of general interest to participants. In addition, the last three conferences have used a symposium format structured around a series of papers for some discussion group sessions.

Format
The format of the symposium has a chairperson, a rapporteur, and one or more consultants as leaders. The chairperson of each group is responsible for presenting a short paper on the symposium topic at the group's first meeting. This paper should introduce the subject and provide a basis for in-depth and free exchange of ideas. The rapporteur is responsible for preparing a report, summarizing the group's discussions and conclusions.

Submissions
Proposals for Symposia are due to Jikun Huang and Linxiu Zhang by December 15, 2005. The Symposia will involve 3-5 short presentations all related to a common theme, with the rest of the time allocated to discussion. Proposals should include the title for the Symposium, the name of the moderator, and the author(s) and titles of all proposed presentations.

Call for Submissions: Computer Demonstrations

Computer demonstrations follow a format similar to a symposium. They are structured around two or more papers that involve detailed demonstrations of software packages of interest to agricultural economists.

Format
Computer demonstrations have a chairperson and two or more presenters. The chairperson is responsible for presenting a short introduction on the computer tools to be demonstrated and the theme that links the various presentations. This introduction should provide a basis for in-depth exchange of ideas.

Eligibility
Presenters and session organizers should be members of the IAAE.

Selection criteria are scientific quality, originality, and applicability of the software to problems relevant to agricultural economics.

Submissions
Suggestions regarding topics and formats are welcome. One possibility is to have a hands-on format. Provided there is enough interest and appropriate computer facilities can be arranged at the conference venue.

Submissions must be received before November 1, 2005. The final decisions concerning the structure of selected Computer Demonstrations will be made by December 15, 2005. You will be advised by January 15, 2006 as to the acceptance of your session proposal.

Proposals must be no more than three pages long and contain the following information:

  • The title of the session
  • The name and contact details of the chairperson
  • Names of the proposed presenters and topics
  • A brief justification regarding the relevance of the session
  • Details of proposed structure, including duration (can be up to two days), equipment needs, maximum acceptable number of participants etc.

Submission for computer demonstrations should be sent to:
