Climate

The Gold Coast enjoys year round sunshine and August is particularly pleasant with sunny mild days and cooler evenings. August is late winter with the average daily temperature of 21°C. Overnight temperatures drop to an average of 13°C. The Gold Coast enjoys an average of eight hours sunshine 300 days per year.

Dress

The Gold Coast has a casual, yet professional business environment. The dress for all sessions and social functions (apart from the Conference Dinner), would be smart casual. We suggest that a jacket be worn in sessions as airconditioning can sometimes be cool. Dress for the Conference Dinner would be lounge suit or smart casual clothing. Comfortable clothing and footwear is recommended for the conference tours. To avoid sunburn, we recommend that you wear a hat and apply sunscreen when outdoors.

Swimming

The Gold Coast has many beautiful beaches which are safe year round for swimming. It is important to swim between the flagged areas which are patrolled by life guards for your safety.

Parking

Complimentary parking is available at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Language

English is the official language of the conference as well as the official language spoken in Australia. The Gold Coast has a well established tourism industry with translation services and multi-lingual tour guides should you require this assistance during your stay.

Telephone, Email, Electricity, Internet Connections

Before arriving in Australia – make sure your communications equipment will operate.

The Australian telephone country code is +61 and the area code for Queensland is 7, or 07 if calling from another state of Australia.

Australian electrical power outlets operate under 240V AC. Hotel bathrooms have power points that accommodate shavers with US, UK and European plugs and any voltage. For other 240V appliances a plug adaptor can be purchased in travel stores overseas or in Australia.

An internet café will be operating during the conference to enable delegates to access the internet and personal emails. There will also be provision for receiving facsimiles (a number will appear on this website closer to the conference) and for printing out documents or conference papers.
